Programmer & Quiet Person

My life has been a little crazy as of late. A little is an understatement, but I’m not terribly interested in being dramatic. I’m sure this goes without saying, and probably doesn’t matter too much that I’m posting this. But I miss working on games full time. All the money and social life can never replace that for me. The creative pursuit is something I’m just designed for. Albeit, the output of which is debatable and objective at best, the process entrances me still to this day.

I’ll be around, working on a variety of things.

Q&A 005

What are you working on?

Currently I’m working on a 2D Story game. It’s a bit of a mix of things, so the easiest way to describe it is by it’s story. The idea is that you’re a lost soul trying to get freedom from purgatory. So in order to do so you have to fight thru the levels of hell and defeat the devil, or whatever his name might be by the end of it, to gain freedom. All enemies you fight will have permadeath. So between saves, whichever enemies you kill will have their souls freed. But it’s your own personal hell, so yours isn’t freed by dying. You just wake up at the last save point.

When is it going to be playable?

Q&A 004

What have I been up to?

Mostly working. I’ve had lots of long hours and restless nights in the last… almost year? Holy shit.

I’ve had a lot of things happen. I would be lying if I said most of it was good. I struggled for a good bit of this year. I’d honestly say the majority of it. I’d say the most important thing I’ve learned this year is to take focus in life balance. I’ve been working long hours, whether at home or work, only to find myself burned out at the end of any stint. To say the least it’s draining to get caught up in the rat race that is everyday life. While there is comfort in the everyday routine I’m finding more and more that time slips away if you don’t pay attention.

Q&A 003

I promise, I’m not dead. I’ll start this Q & A off with acknowledging that I’ve been relatively silent when it comes to the internet/social media recently. I’ve started a new job at a local towing company. It’s really a great learning experience for me. I still write code daily, I just don’t have consistent enough internet right now to stream on. Note: I’ll be sorting that problem out shortly, and intend on streaming at least somewhat regularly.

I’ve moved from my desktop to a laptop, as my life has changed a good bit in the past 2 months. I’ve moved house, got a job, and feel like I have a better outlook on life in general. I’m staying busy, which helps keep me motivated even outside of work.
